Holiday With Kids At Mandalay Holiday Resort

The December/January school holidays are a busy time at Mandalay! If it’s a family holiday jam-packed with fun activities then Mandalay is the holiday destination for you!

The festive season kicks off with a visit from Santa, delivering gifts to the young and the young at heart. Arriving in an authentic Japanese fire truck called “Sugito”, Santa takes time out of his busy schedule and attracts a huge crowd who are then entertained by the Busselton Shire Brass Band playing all the well known Christmas Carols.

The New Years Eve Disco is a very popular tradition at Mandalay. Guests bring their chairs, picnic rugs and dancing shoes down to our oval to enjoy a night of fun and games, with our very own local DJ “Pete’s Beat” churning out the tunes all night long. The highlight of the night is the egg toss, where two dozen eggs are hurled over the strings of coloured lights outside the games room.  Some classic catches were taken from both the big and the small, with many eggs only just making it to the ground without so much as a crack.

Unfortunately with such an event, someone will be left with egg on their face, with a few shattered spectators receiving an unexpected splatter or two.  Perhaps the yolks on them.  What a crack up!
During January the activities continue with weekly dodgeball and cricket matches for those wanting to get out and run around. Mandalay also has visits from Segway West and the Buz climbing wall to keep everyone well entertained all week.

Mandalay’s much anticipated talent night, this year named “The M Factor” was filled with amazing acts and talented guests. The acts range from dancers and singers, to comedy skits and joke telling, with guests of all ages thoroughly entertained.

Local produce, food, wine, crafts and attractions are also on show at Mandalay Holiday Resort during January at our Twilight Gourmet Markets. Families and holiday-makers can come out on a beautiful warm January night and enjoy the Segway rides, Dutch pancakes & crepes, Wagyu Beef burgers, Cena Pizzeria wood fired pizzas, Carbunup Crest and Swooping Magpie wines, local Eagle Bay Brewing Company beer, delicious cakes, Delish-Ice handmade fruit icy-poles, Artisan St handmade chocolates, jewellery, crafts and local artwork.

Guests also took advantage of a large outdoor dining area and families relaxed with some music, a meal and a glass of wine or beer, browsed the market stalls or were entertained with the rides. A second market is scheduled for late January.

For the budding anglers Mandalay hosts an annual Family Fishing Competition during January. The bites often begin few and far between, but as the scent of the burley slick reaches the fish, the judges are quickly inundated with aspiring fishermen and women bringing their catches to be recorded.

A variety of fish, including sand whiting, herring, trumpeter, skippy and flatheads are often caught, even a nor-west blowfish!  All fish caught are presented live, and then released once recorded.  The Department of Fisheries Western Australia attends the evening to give plenty of hints, tips and advice to all competitors.

While it all sounds very busy, you still have plenty of time to put your feet up, relax and enjoy a restful holiday, and who wouldn’t want to do that at Mandalay?
